As one of the commonly used milling equipment, the ball mill encounters a variety of problems, the following is a breakdown of the 13 types of faults, see how many times you have encountered!

1. Ball mill bearing overheating, motor overload

cause of issue:

1) The lubricant grade is inconsistent with the equipment specification, or the lubricant is deteriorated;

2) too much or too little grease;

3) The lubrication line is blocked, causing the lubricating oil not to enter the lubrication point;

4) The bearing or coupling is not installed correctly;

5) The gap between the journal and the bearing bush is too large or too small, and the contact is poor;

6) The oil tank is damaged and the oil cannot flow into the journal or bearing bush.


1) Replace the deteriorated lubricant with the correct grade of lubricant;

2) Adding enough oil according to the regulations, generally 1/3 to 1/2 of the bearing clearance is more appropriate;

3) dredge the lubrication pipeline;

4) Install the bearing or coupling correctly;

5) Adjust the clearance between the journal and the bearing bush;

6) Check the oil tank in time.

2. There is a regular tapping sound during operation, and the sound is loud.

Cause of failure: Some of the lining bolts are not tightened. When the ball mill rotates, the lining plate strikes the ball mill cylinder.

Solution: Determine the ball mill lining part according to the sound position, and find the loose bolt for fastening.

3. After the motor is started with the reducer, vibration occurs.

cause of issue:

1) The clearance between the two wheels of the coupling is too small, and it is difficult to compensate for the amount of turbulence caused by the magnetic center of the motor when starting the motor;

2) The transmission coupling of the reducer, motor and drive shaft does not maintain a high degree of coaxiality, resulting in disagreement between the two axes;

3) The connecting bolts of the coupling are not symmetrically tightened, and the fastening force is different in size;

4) The outer ring of the bearing is not fixed.


1) Adjust the wheel gap according to the regulations;

2) Make the two axes concentric;

3) symmetrically tighten the connecting bolts of the coupling with the same torque;

4) Fix the bearing outer ring.

4, the vibration of the reducer with the mill occurs

cause of issue:

1) The balance shaft of the ball mill and the reducer, the axis is not in a straight line;

2) The large ball mill is bulky and heavy, causing the foundation to sink and shift.


1) Re-adjusting so that the axis of the ball mill mill and the axis of the reducer are on the same plane axis;

2) Set up monitoring settlement points next to the foundation, observe them, and make adjustments when there is sinking.

5, the ball mill sounds dull, the ammeter reading drops, less discharge

cause of issue:

1) too much filling material, large particle size;

2) The material has a large moisture, the sticky ball is ground, and the scorpion is blocked;

3) Improper filling of the grinding body, or misalignment due to the silo, the length of each bin is unreasonable.


1) reduce the filling material, and reduce the grinding particle size;

2) reduce the moisture of the material and clean the tweezers;

3) Adjust the ratio of the grinding body and the length of each bin.

6, the reducer bearing heat, abnormal operation sound

cause of issue:

1) The vent of the reducer is blocked;

2) The balance wheel and intermediate wheel of the reducer are not installed according to the specified meshing teeth.


1) Perform temperature detection on the reducer bearing to clear the vent hole;

2) The balance wheel and the intermediate wheel are mounted according to the specified meshing teeth.

7, the main bearing temperature is too high, hot, smoke or melt

cause of issue:

1) oil supply interruption or oil shortage;

2) Poor oil quality or sand, debris, etc. in the bearing;

3) The main bearing is not installed properly;

4) The cylinder drive shaft is bent;

5) The oil groove is too deep and the pad and shaft contact make the oil not enter the tile;

6) The oil supply device fails, the oil supply is interrupted or insufficient;

7) The bearing clearance is not suitable and the contact with the shaft is poor;

8) The viscosity of the lubricating oil is unqualified;

9) The coupling is not installed correctly;

10) The main bearing has insufficient cooling water or high cooling water temperature.


1) Cooling down, then stop grinding to check and adjust, increase the amount of oil;

2) Wash and replace with new oil;

3) adjust the leveling;

4) Adjusting and aligning;

5) inspection, repair, adjustment;

6) repair the oil supply device.

7) Adjust the gap, scrape the bearing bush or repair the journal;

8) Replace the suitable viscosity lubricant;

10) Increase water supply. Or lower the water supply temperature.

8. Local wear of the cylinder

cause of issue:

1) The lining is not installed in a wrong position;

2) continue to run after the liner has fallen off;

3) There is material flushing between the liner and the cylinder.


1) The lining is staggered and installed;

2) Repair or replace the liner;

3) Make the liner and the cylinder tightly fit.

9. Gear bearing vibration, excessive noise, accompanied by percussion

cause of issue:

1) Loose bearing cap or bearing housing bolts;

2) The bearing wear is too large;

3) poor bearing installation;

4) The gear is worn too much, the lubricant is too dirty or lacks lubricating oil;

5) If the gear is improperly meshed, the radial or axial runout of the large gear is too large;

6) The large gear coupling bolt is loose or the counter bolt is loose;

7) Gear machining accuracy is not satisfactory;

8) The loose bearing bush or the transmission bearing seat anchor bolt loose or the apron wear;

9) The coupling bolt is loose or the apron is worn.

10. Lubrication system oil pressure is too high or too low

cause of issue:

1) The tubing is clogged or leaking oil;

2) insufficient oil supply;

3) There is a problem with the oil pump.


1) Check if the oil pipe is clogged or leaking oil, and check or replace the oil pipe in time;

2) Timed replenishment of oil;

3) Check if the oil pump enters the air or leaks oil and handle it in time.

11, the ball mill can not start or start the motor overload

cause of issue:

1) There is a problem with the motor system;

2) There are obstacles in the swivel part;

3) When the machine is stopped for a long time, the material and the grinding body in the ball mill are not removed in time, and the wet material is condensed into blocks. When the machine starts, the grinding body does not drop, which increases the load on the motor.


1) Check and repair the motor system;

2) Clean up some obstacles in the swivel;

3) Clean the material and the grinding body in the ball mill, clean out the agglomerated material and part of the grinding body, and stir and mix the remaining material and the grinding body.

12, gear tooth surface wear too fast

cause of issue:

1) poor lubrication or lubricating oil mixed with impurities, metals, etc.;

2) the meshing gap is too large or too small, and the contact is poor;

3) The quality of gear processing is not satisfactory;

4) Poor material, insufficient hardness of the tooth surface;

5) Poor assembly;

6) Enter the ore and other abrasive particles between the teeth.


1) Strengthen bones or replace lubricants;

2) Adjust the meshing clearance;

3) Strict control of the processing process and elimination of unqualified parts;

4) quenching and tempering treatment;

6) Perform cleaning.

13, mill vibration, axial turbulence abnormal

cause of issue:

1) The grounding of the base of the machine base causes the mill to be installed unevenly;

2) The bottom surface of the foundation is eroded by oil leakage and the bottom bolt is loose.


1) It can be shut down, padded to adjust the sinking position, and make the ground level of the machine bottom;

2) Remove the secondary grouting layer that has been eroded by oil, and re-bury the anchor bolts, then adjust the grinder and tighten the anchor bolts.
